A study on the production of oxalic acid from methanol single carbon has never been reported untill now.
To investigate whether Aspergillus niger converts methanol to organic acids, a.niger was cultured in a single substrate of methanol.
methanol concentration rapidly decreased in the first two days reaching 17g/L. 
After that, methanol was consumed slowly and then rapidly decreased again at 5 days.
Oxalic acid production also showed a tendency to increase rapidly on the day 2 and day 4 depending on the consumption of methanol (fig.1).
On Day 7 of initial MeOH concentration of 20 g/L, the total methanol consumption and oxalic acid production were 3.5 ± 1.01 g/L and 0.78 ± 0.15 g/L, respectively.
Oxalic acid production was still increasing with methanol consumption. 
Thus indicating that if the culture time was extended, oxalic acid could be increased. 
The results showed that the a. niger strain produces oxalic acid by consuming methanol as a single carbon substrate.
